In 1995 about 40 boat owners each put in £2,000 with the object of building and running a marina in Grimsby Fish Docks. With the help of Associated British Ports, who consented to enter into a lease and with the support of the Royal Yachting Association the job started with a floating pontoon set within part of the long disused Fish Dock 2.

At the time the area was somewhat desolate- the fish landing quays long since abandoned, the once thriving fishing fleet gone forever.

In stages the club attracted an increased membership and occasional visiting yachtsmen and boat owners. Prompted by advertising, national publicity and personal recommendations the membership grew.
